Der niederländische evangelikale Missionar Anne van der Bijl (1928–2022), bekannt als Bruder Andrew, gründete das internationale Hilfswerk Open Doors und wirkte vor allem im Ostblock sowie im Nahen Osten. Bekanntheit erlangte er ab 1955 durch heimliche Bibellieferungen hinter den Eisernen Vorhang, wobei der bewusste Rechtsbruch und spätere Kontakte zu islamistischen Führern auch Kritik erfuhren. Heutigen Bibellesern steht er für den praktischen Einsatz für weltweit bedrängte Christen und die kritische Hinterfragung einer bequemen westlichen Glaubenspraxis.
