Charles Thomas Studd war ein englischer Cricketspieler und evangelikaler Missionar, der als Mitglied der „Cambridge Seven“ in China, später in Indien und bis zu seinem Tod im damaligen Belgisch-Kongo wirkte. Er gründete die Missionsgesellschaft WEC International und wurde für das Verschenken seines gesamten Vermögens sowie seinen kompromisslosen Einsatz im Glaubensdienst bekannt. Bibellesenden gilt er als Beispiel radikaler Opferbereitschaft, wirft mit seinem autoritären Führungsstil und der jahrelangen Trennung von seiner Familie jedoch auch Fragen nach den Grenzen missionarischer Härte auf.
