Dom Hélder Câmara (1909–1999) war ein brasilianischer römisch-katholischer Geistlicher und von 1964 bis 1985 Erzbischof von Olinda und Recife. Er wurde als Wegbereiter der Befreiungstheologie und gewaltfreier Kritiker der brasilianischen Militärdiktatur bekannt, stand jedoch wegen früher Sympathien für den Integralismus und von Kritikern erhobener Marxismus-Vorwürfe auch in der Kritik. Für heutige Bibelleser steht sein Wirken für die Verknüpfung von Evangelium und praktischer Solidarität mit gesellschaftlich Benachteiligten.
