Johann Georg Hamann war ein deutscher lutherischer Philosoph und Schriftsteller des 18. Jahrhunderts, der vor allem in Königsberg lebte und wirkte. Er wandte sich gegen den reinen Rationalismus der Aufklärung, verstand Vernunft als untrennbar an Sprache gebunden und polarisierte Zeitgenossen mit seinem dunklen, anspielungsreichen Schreibstil sowie scharfen Polemiken. Für heutige Bibelleser ist er als früher Sprachphilosoph von Bedeutung, der die biblische Offenbarung und die Inkarnation gegen ein rein säkulares Vernunftverständnis verteidigte.
