William Carey (1761–1834) war ein englischer baptistischer Missionar, Pastor und Sprachgelehrter, der ab 1793 vor allem im indischen Serampore und Kalkutta wirkte. Er gilt als Wegbereiter der modernen protestantischen Mission und wurde durch umfangreiche Bibelübersetzungen in indische Sprachen sowie sein Engagement gegen die Witwenverbrennung bekannt.
