Ambrose of Milan

Ambrosius von Mailand (339–397) war ein römischer Beamter, der 374 zum Bischof von Mailand gewählt wurde und zu den bedeutendsten lateinischen Kirchenvätern der Frühkirche zählt. Er prägte die altkirchliche Theologie, Liturgie und das Verhältnis von Kirche und Staat, steht historisch jedoch auch wegen seines Vorgehens gegen Nichtchristen und seiner Intervention gegen den Wiederaufbau der Synagoge von Kallinikon in der Kritik. Heutigen Bibellesern vermitteln seine Schriften und Predigten Einblicke in die patristische Schriftauslegung sowie in die geistliche Gedankenwelt, die auch Augustinus maßgeblich beeinflusste.
