Matthias Jorissen war ein deutscher reformierter Pfarrer und Kirchenlieddichter, der nach seiner Suspendierung wegen scharfer Kritik am Rationalismus ab 1769 in den Niederlanden wirkte. Er steht für eine bibelorientierte Frömmigkeit der Erweckungsbewegung und schuf mit seiner „Neuen Bereimung der Psalmen“ von 1798 eine weit verbreitete Neuübertragung des Genfer Psalters. Bibellesern begegnet sein Werk bis heute in vertrauten Gesangbuchliedern, die Psalmentexte in gereimter, sangbarer Form überliefern.
