Alexander Duff
Alexander Duff (1806–1878) war ein schottischer presbyterianischer Missionar und Pädagoge, der im 19. Jahrhundert vor allem in Kalkutta wirkte. Er begründete die englischsprachige Bildungsmisson in Indien, stieß jedoch wegen seiner eurozentrischen Haltung und der gezielten Abwertung traditioneller indischer Kultur auf Kritik. Bibellesern begegnet er heute als historische Leitfigur für missionarischen Pioniergeist, dessen Erbe zugleich die Verflechtung von Weltmission und Kolonialismus verdeutlicht.
