Franz von Assisi (1181–1226) war ein italienischer Wanderprediger und Ordensgründer, der die Gemeinschaft der Minderen Brüder ins Leben rief. Er steht für eine radikale evangelische Besitzlosigkeit, den schöpfungsverbundenen „Sonnengesang“ sowie für die durch sein Armutsideal ausgelösten innerkirchlichen Spannungen.
