Christian Fürchtegott Gellert (1715–1769) war ein deutscher lutherischer Dichter und Professor für Philosophie und Poesie in Leipzig. Er galt als einer der einflussreichsten Schriftsteller der Aufklärung und Empfindsamkeit, der christliche Tugendethik und Glaubensfragen in Fabeln, Schriften und Vorlesungen vermittelte. Für Bibelleser heute ist er vor allem durch seine geistlichen Lieder wie „Jesus lebt, mit ihm auch ich“ präsent, die feste Bestandteile christlicher Gesangbücher geblieben sind.
