Heribert Rau (1813–1876) war ein deutscher Schriftsteller und freireligiöser Prediger, der unter anderem in Mannheim, Stuttgart und Offenbach am Main wirkte. Er vertrat eine an Aufklärung und Naturerfahrung orientierte Frömmigkeit jenseits traditioneller Dogmen, was ihm wiederholt Konflikte mit kirchlichen Obrigkeiten sowie die Amtsenthebung als Prediger einbrachte. Für Bibelleser ist er heute vor allem als Urheber bildhafter und erbaulicher Sinnsprüche über Schöpfung und Tugend präsent, die meist unabhängig von seinem kirchenkritischen Hintergrund zitiert werden.
