Alexander Schmemann (1921–1983) war ein orthodoxer Priester und Theologe, der nach Jahren in Paris vor allem als Dekan des St. Vladimir’s Seminary in den USA wirkte. Er setzte sich für eine theologische Erneuerung der Liturgie und die aktive Teilnahme der Gläubigen ein, stieß damit jedoch bei traditionalistischen Kreisen auf Widerspruch.
