Mutter Teresa (1910–1997) war eine katholische Ordensschwester albanischer Herkunft, die in Kalkutta die Kongregation der „Missionarinnen der Nächstenliebe“ gründete und sich der Fürsorge für mittellose Sterbende und Ausgestoßene widmete. Weltweit bekannt wurde sie als Symbol radikaler Nächstenliebe und Friedensnobelpreisträgerin, stand jedoch auch wegen mangelhafter medizinischer Standards in ihren Sterbehäusern sowie intransparenter Finanzen in der Kritik.
