Die niederländisch-jüdische Autorin Etty Hillesum führte während der nationalsozialistischen Besatzung in Amsterdam und im Durchgangslager Westerbork Tagebücher und Briefe, bevor sie 1943 in Auschwitz ermordet wurde.
