Menno Simons (1496–1561) war ein niederländischer Priester, der sich der Täuferbewegung anschloss und als Prediger sowie theologischer Schriftsteller im niederländisch-norddeutschen Raum wirkte. Als Namensgeber der Mennoniten sammelte er die Bewegung auf Grundlage von Gläubigentaufe und strikter Gewaltfreiheit, vertrat jedoch auch eine umstrittene, rigorose Praxis des Gemeindebanns.
