Menno Simons (1496–1561) war ein niederländischer Priester, der sich der Täuferbewegung anschloss und als Prediger sowie theologischer Schriftsteller im niederländisch-norddeutschen Raum wirkte. Als Namensgeber der Mennoniten sammelte er die Bewegung auf Grundlage von Gläubigentaufe und strikter Gewaltfreiheit, vertrat jedoch auch eine umstrittene, rigorose Praxis des Gemeindebanns. Für Bibelleser heute steht er für eine an der Bergpredigt ausgerichtete Theologie, die christlichen Glauben an tätige Nächstenliebe und praktischen Frieden bindet.
