Ole Hallesby (1879–1961) war ein einflussreicher norwegischer Theologieprofessor, Erweckungsprediger und Leiter der lutherischen Inneren Mission, der im Zweiten Weltkrieg auch im kirchlichen Widerstand gegen die deutsche Besatzung aktiv war. Er stand für einen kompromisslosen pietistisch-orthodoxen Glauben, führte harte Auseinandersetzungen gegen theologische Liberalisierung und löste 1953 mit einer drastischen Rundfunkpredigt über die Hölle eine landesweite Kontroverse aus. Für Bibelleser heute ist er vor allem durch seine seelsorgerlichen Schriften wie das Buch „Vom Beten“ von Bedeutung, in dem er das Gebet als Zuflucht der menschlichen Hilflosigkeit vor Gott beschreibt.
