Óscar Romero

Óscar Romero (1917–1980) war römisch-katholischer Erzbischof von San Salvador in El Salvador. Er trat öffentlich gegen staatliche Gewalt, Morde und soziale Ungerechtigkeit ein, weshalb er von den herrschenden Eliten als politischer Agitator bekämpft und 1980 am Altar von einer Todesschwadron ermordet wurde. Für Bibelleser veranschaulicht sein Wirken ein gewaltfreies Glaubenszeugnis, das die biblische Parteinahme für Arme und Entrechtete unter Einsatz des eigenen Lebens ernst nimmt.
