Carl Johann Philipp Spitta war ein deutscher evangelisch-lutherischer Theologe und Pfarrer, der im 19. Jahrhundert in Norddeutschland wirkte. Geprägt von der Erweckungsbewegung wurde er vor allem durch die Liedersammlung „Psalter und Harfe“ sowie Kirchenlieder wie „O komm, du Geist der Wahrheit“ bekannt. Für Bibelleser heute formulieren seine bis heute in Gesangbüchern vertretenen Texte schlichte Ausdrucksformen von Trost und persönlicher Glaubenszuversicht.
