Huldrych Zwingli (1484–1531) war ein Schweizer Priester und Theologe, der ab 1519 von Zürich aus die deutschschweizerische Reformation begründete. Er prägte die reformierte Tradition durch ein striktes Schriftprinzip, die Erarbeitung der Zürcher Bibel sowie die theologische Deutung des Abendmahls als reines Gedächtnismahl. Heutigen Bibellesern begegnet er als einflussreicher Bibelübersetzer und Sozialethiker, dessen Wirken jedoch durch die Befürwortung der Täuferverfolgung und sein gewaltsames Ende im Kriegseinsatz überschattet ist.
