Thomas Morus (1478–1535) war ein englischer Jurist, christlicher Humanist und Lordkanzler unter König Heinrich VIII. Er wurde durch sein staatsphilosophisches Werk „Utopia“ berühmt, starb wegen seiner Weigerung, die königliche Kirchenhoheit anzuerkennen, durch Hinrichtung und bleibt wegen seiner Beteiligung an der Verfolgung früher Protestanten historisch umstritten.
