Alan Paton (1903–1988) war ein südafrikanischer Schriftsteller, Reformpädagoge und Politiker, der sich aus anglikanischer Glaubensüberzeugung gegen das Apartheid-Regime engagierte. Durch seinen Roman „Denn sie sollen getröstet werden“ weltbekannt, trat er für gleiche Bürgerrechte und Versöhnung ein, stieß jedoch mit seinem strikten Pazifismus und seiner Ablehnung von Wirtschaftssanktionen später auch bei radikaleren Anti-Apartheid-Gruppen auf Kritik.
